Remnants

Remnants, lint rolled paper, 5”x5” 2020

My family is from the town of Kashan in Iran, made famous for their production of rugs. When finding this information out about my family I started questioning my lineage within rug making in relation to my textile work, maybe whatever I make could be a rug in its own right.
I began to clean up the remnants of each day's sewing projects with lint rollers. Each paper roll gathered random remnants of what I have worked on but still connected to my day. The more I looked at these abstractions I started to think about them as my own rugs, rugs which speak to my fragmented understanding of my heritage while I try to identify with it from a different place.
